Job Description:
The Cytotechnologist is responsible for performing cytology testing procedures and providing clinical result interpretation in compliance with established laboratory procedures and quality standards. This role involves the preparation and examination of microscopic slides of cell samples, identifying abnormalities, and providing detailed interpretations for all patient samples, including fine-needle aspirates. The cytotechnologist also issues normal cytology reports and collaborates with pathologists to interpret abnormal cytology findings.
- Prepare and examine all types of body specimens, including fine-needle aspirates, to identify cellular abnormalities. Provide accurate interpretations for screened patient samples and issue normal cytology reports.
- Collaborate with pathologists to interpret abnormal cytology findings.
- Perform laboratory tests in accordance with departmental standards and protocols. Ensure results are accurate and meet quality control standards through careful review and verification.
- Apply proper techniques for specimen procurement, handling, and preparation. Operate and maintain laboratory instruments, ensuring compliance with procedural guidelines and universal precautions.
- Perform and document quality control procedures, ensuring all tests are compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Participate in proficiency testing and quality improvement initiatives, working closely with laboratory leadership and pathologists to address any issues.
- Assist in the evaluation of new laboratory equipment and technologies.
- Provide recommendations for enhancements to laboratory procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Work closely with physician staff and pathologists to provide accurate diagnostic results in a timely manner.
