Job Description:
As the Blood Bank Technical Specialist, is responsible for managing, coordinating, and ensuring accountability within laboratory operations, specifically focusing on blood bank services. This position plays a key role in maintaining optimal operational efficiency through effective use of laboratory information system reports and ensuring appropriate staffing levels during the laboratory management on-call rotation.
- Manage and coordinate laboratory activities, ensuring adequate staffing levels are maintained and participating in the laboratory management on-call rotation to support operational continuity.
- Perform complex blood bank testing procedures, ensuring clinical results are accurate and comply with quality assurance and technical standards. Provide clinical interpretation of test results, supporting effective patient care.
- Monitor and maintain quality control measures, reviewing quality control records, preventive maintenance documentation, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented in compliance with regulatory standards. Ensure laboratory activities meet clinical, operational, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop, validate, and evaluate new testing methods, equipment, reagents, instrumentation, and technologies to enhance laboratory capabilities and efficiency.
- Participate in the creation, review, and updating of policies and procedures, ensuring they align with current standards and best practices. Maintain timely reviews and revisions as needed.
- Identify staff training needs and coordinate in-service training and educational opportunities to ensure staff remain proficient in their roles and up to date with new methodologies and practices.
- Collect and analyze quality assurance statistics and other operational data, ensuring performance metrics are met and improvements are implemented where necessary.
- Serve as the laboratory’s representative on the Transfusion Services Committee and other related organizational committees, providing technical expertise in blood bank and transfusion services.

- Conduct individualized behavioral analysis assessments (ABLLS-R, VBMAPP, FBA’s, FA’s)

- Mentor and supervise Behavior Technicians and RBTs, ensuring procedural fidelity
